Power Plant

• The six generators housed in the underground power plant could produce 17.3 megawatts and were powered by 16 cylinder diesel engines.

  • While not the actual PAR/MSR power plant, these two videos show the Cooper-Bessemer LSV-16 prime mover driving a generator. This is the same engine used in the PAR and MSR power plants.

  • This may be the power plant at the prototype MSR on Meck Island.
  • The tactical installation in North Dakota had the generating units arranged 3 X 3 on each side of a central corridor.

• B000: Power plant control room (1975).
  • Located on the upper level of the power plant building.
• C104: One of six Cooper-Bessemer prime movers coming through the PEUT headed for the power plant. <$
• 5008: Air intake stacks (shorter), diesel exhaust stacks (taller).

• Security Operations Control Center.
  • Security operations for the MSR complex were housed in one corner of the underground power plant building (both levels).
  • Lower level contained the decontamination area, arms room, and operations center.
  • Upper level contained the officers' quarters, enlisted dormitory, day room, dining area, etc.
